چکیده

We used the Robotic Optical Transient Search Experiment (ROTSE-III) astrophysical transient survey to determine the rate of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) in dwarf galaxies within a radius of 310 Mpc. The rate is inferred from the SNe Ia sample discovered by ROTSE-III and a Monte Carlo simulation that estimates the ROTSE-III SNe Ia detection efficiency. Assuming that the rate of SNe Ia is the same in high surface brightness galaxies and dwarf galaxies, we determined the SNe Ia rate in dwarf galaxies to be 0.017 −0.015 SNe Mpc −3century−1. The rate implies a luminosity density of dwarf galaxy and intergalactic stellar population of 9.44 −8.3× 10 LB, Mpc−3.

The Role of Type Ia Supernovae in Chemical Evolution I: Lifetime of Type Ia Supernovae and Galactic Supernova Rates

We construct a new model of Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia), based on the single degenerate scenario, taking account of the metallicity effect of the white dwarf (WD) wind and the mass-stripping effect on the binary companion star. Our model naturally predicts that the SN Ia lifetime distribution spans a range of 0.1 − 20 Gyr with the double peaks at ∼ 0.1 and 1 Gyr. While the present SN Ia rate in...

THE LARGE–SCALE ENVIRONMENTS OF TYPE Ia SUPERNOVAE: EVIDENCE FOR A METALLICITY BIAS IN THE RATE OR LUMINOSITY OF PROMPT Ia EVENTS

Using data drawn from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and the SDSS–II Supernova Survey, we study the local environments of confirmed type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) in the nearby Universe. At 0.05 < z < 0.15, we find that SN Ia events in blue, star–forming galaxies occur preferentially in regions of lower galaxy density relative to galaxies of like stellar mass and star–formation rate, while SN...

Implications of Elemental Abundances in Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies

Unusual elemental abundance patterns observed for stars belonging to nearby dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies are discussed. Analysis of the [α/H] vs. [Fe/H] diagrams where α represents Mg or average of α-elements reveals that Fe from Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) does not contribute to the stellar abundances in the dSph galaxies where the member stars exhibit low α/Fe ratios except for the most m...

The rate and the origin of type Ia supernovae in radiogalaxies

An analysis of type Ia supernova (SNIa) events in early type galaxies from Evans et al. (1989) database provides strong evidence that the rate of type Ia supernovae (SNe) in radio-loud galaxies is about 6 times higher than the rate measured in radio-quiet galaxies, i.e. SNIarate(radio − loud galaxies) = 0.47 −0.15 h 2 50 SNe per century and per 10 L ⊙ (SNU) as compared to SNIa-rate(radio− quiet...

Luminosity Functions of Type Ia Supernovae and their Host Galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

The sample of 137 low-redshift type Ia supernovae with 0.05 ≤ z ≤ 0.3 obtained from the SDSS-II Supernova Survey for the southern equatorial stripe of 300 square degrees is used to derive the luminosity functions of type Ia supernovae and of their host galaxies in the gri passbands. We show that the luminosity function of type Ia supernova host galaxies matches well with that of galaxies in the...
